Accomplishments Q1 & Q2 '17 - Community Update

July 13, 2017 by Sue Graves

First, thank you to all our generous members and donors. Because of your continued support Network Time Foundation was able to accomplish some great things in the first half of 2017. As a nonprofit organization, it is all of you who help NTF produce and maintain the most reliable, secure and trusted open-source network time software that is so vital to the infrastructure of our modern world. We look forward to sharing even more accomplishments with you next quarter.

Technical Milestones

  • NTF published ntp-4.2.8p10, an NTP security update, on March 21st. The update includes 6 medium-severity and 4 low-severity security fixes, along with 15 minor bug fixes and some small improvements.

  • Significant progress has been made with new Extension Field processing, which will allow NTF to integrate the work done on NTS (Network Time Security - the replacement for Autokey).

  • Harlan Stenn, Bruce Korb, Danny Mayer, Sue Graves and Richard Welty participated in several IETF ntpwg (NTP Working Group) and NTS development meetings.

Company

  • Volunteers brought several network switches and many servers online at ServerCentral in Chicago.

  • In Q1, NTF added a part-time contractor, Koni Burrow, as Social Media Manager.

  • In June, NTF received a large donation of used hardware from Automattic, which is being reconfigured and will be put into service by Harlan and Joe Greco, one of our volunteers.

Revenues

  • New institutional memberships were received from Facebook, Cox Communications and Nimbus/Alibaba Group. Institutional memberships were renewed by Yahoo, BlueCoat/Symantec, Infoblox, Meinberg, Microsemi, Spectracom and an anonymous large corporation.

  • NTF had 20 new and renewed individual members, and a few bigger one-time donors.

  • NTF was accepted as a participant in the Combined Federal Campaign for a second year.
