Network Time Foundation has released its next stable release of NTP, 4.2.8p3, which includes a fix for a minor security issue, many bug fixes, and some new features including leap second experimental options.
Here are some highlights:
makes it easier to distribute time packets with the right priority settings on older and newer networks
autokey now better transfers the current TAI offset
adds support for the JJY TDC-300 Reference clock
ntpq -c apeers
added to allow folks know about their NTP associations
fixed join for multicast group
Leap Second highlights:
we now report “unsync” while the leap second is being applied
improves robustness of DCF77 signal decoding
ntpq
’s ifstats
will better help those who want to watch their interface statistics during this time.

script is now more portable
the refid/leap smear code added as experimental, please see this documentation prior to implementation. Note that we have unit test cases for the refid smear and many other parts of the code building on all systems now, not just systems that have google-test installed.
