David L. Mills, 3 Jun 1938 - 17 Jan 2024

I woke up this morning to an email from Dave’s daughter, Leigh (Eileen), telling us that her father had died on Wednesday the 17th. Peacefully but unexpectedly.

I believe this to be a huge loss to so very many people - those in the world who benefitted from his work but never thought about it or knew who he was, the Internet community, his family and friends, and certainly to me.

And I’m reminded that the reason I am aware of the magnitude of this loss is because I have had the awesome benefit of spending the past 30 years’ time interacting with him, and working so closely with him on the Network Time Protocol Project.

I’ll have more to say in future posts - I just wanted to get this information out there.
